--Michael Felt (talk) 12:05, 10 November 2020 (CET) Adding the latest new release Python3-3.9 as aixtools.python.py39. For me - this is big news, because something I worked hard to get added to Python3 is now formally included in the standard release. FYI: I add a patch to the py36, py37 and py38 versions to they have it as well. What is it? Proper PEP425 tagging - needed to support using PyPa bdist (binary distribution) known as wheels (.whl files).

--Michael Felt (talk) 19:14, 31 March 2020 (CEST) Python packaging is changing - to permit parallel installations of Python. Today, the first repackaged Python-3.8.2 as aixtools.python.py38.

  • Python3-3.8.2. 64-bit

--Michael Felt (talk) 17:43, 26 October 2019 (CEST)

* Python3-3.6.9 is packaged, 64-bit
* Python3-3.7.5 is packaged, 64-bit
* Python3-3.8.0 is packaged, 64-bit
* Note Python2-2.7.17 is packaged, 32-bit. See python2
* I'll be packaging as 64-bit, by default, rather than 32-bit. If you need 32-bit and/or with
"shared" library support (e.g., python.installer requires "shared-library" support - post to
the forums -> http://forums.rootvg.net/aixtools <- and I'll get to it asap.

Note!

Since the default is 64-bit, and AIX build is 32-bit by default - before calling pip to build a module needing the xlc compiler (not gcc) you need to "# export OBJECt_MODE=64"

--Michael Felt (talk) 16:16, 10 May 2019 (CEST) Packaged as 64-bit (only). If you require a 32-bit packaging - leave a note on the forums and I'll get back to you asap.

--Michael Felt (talk) 21:02, 1 June 2018 (CEST) All versions of Python3. Only the file aixtools.python3.3.6.5.0.64bit.I includes 64-bit utilities and python executable and 64-bit .pyc files. There is a very small part that also includes 32-bit and 64-bit .o members in the archives.

Note: both the 32-bit and 64-bit packages install as aixtools.python3.* . To be sure which installs, e.g., 64-bit version use:

# installp -d aixtools.python3.3.6.5.0.64bit.I -a all

--Michael Felt (talk) 16:49, 10 May 2018 (CEST) Only have the latest version 3.6 atm. The final version 3.5 and 3.4 will come asap.

--Michael Felt (talk) 22:09, 16 November 2016 (UTC) patched an issue (see https://bugs.python.org/issue18235) and have added the missing files to the package, besides all the other changes between version 3.5.1 and 3.5.2

--Michael Felt (talk) 08:46, 16 November 2016 (UTC) VERSION 3.5.1.1: The packaging is the same as my previous packaging available via python but I changed the package name so "Python2 aka python" and "Python3 aka python3" can be installed together.
